My fishing mate Dom asks me out to lunch at Hosokawa today. It's been 18 months since my last visit when I rated our lunch 4.0/5.0 Arriving at 11.40am I am surprised to see only 3 vacant tables. I see two waitresses run off their feet taking orders and serving meals. Menus are provided and I ask for Green Tea which is promptly delivered, flavourful and piping hot.
When our lunch order is taken, I notice the vacant tables are now occupied and many of the diners are Japanese or Chinese. Our teacups are topped up by the attentive waitress. The Gyoza arrives with a dipping sauce. They are freshly made then pan fried and the pork filling is fresh. The best Gyoza I have tasted for some time. Rating: 5.0/5.0
Our mains arrive minutes after we finish the entree. My Sashimi Set ($21) includes rice and miso soup. The huge thick slices of fresh Salmon, King Fish and Tuna are mesmerising. The scallop, slice of squid and octopus are just as fresh. I finish off my meal with a slice of salt and vinegar cured mackerel. My best Sashimi meal for some time. Rating: 5.0/5.0
Dom is a regular as he lives within walking distance of Racecourse Rd. He recommended Hosokawa to me many years ago. He thoroughly enjoys his Chirashi Set ($24) which includes a Miso Soup and Pickles. Rating: 5.0/5.0
I walk in to the sashimi counter to thank the Chef for our wonderful meal. Both him and the wait staff openly show their appreciation. Smiles all round, a great way to leave a restaurant. My first perfect rating for a Brisbane restaurant.
Congratulations and Domo Arigato Hosokawa!
